# Tool availability

> Turn whole Endless tools, including chat, on or off for the workspace, a team or one person, and see what members get when a tool is off.

Source: https://endless.okinawa/docs/governance/feature-flags

**Settings → Governance → Tools** turns whole tools on or off for the workspace, a team or one
person. Use it when a group shouldn't use a tool at all. To limit only which models a tool can
run, use [Model availability](/docs/governance/model-availability).

<Callout type="info">
Opening the page needs **View workspace activity and governance**; changing it
needs **Change workspace governance settings**. Without the second, the page
is read-only. See [Roles and permissions](/docs/governance/roles-and-permissions).
</Callout>

## Turn a tool off

1. Pick a **Scope**: **Workspace**, a **Team**, or a **Person**.
2. Switch the tool off.

**"Reset"** clears the rules set at the scope you're viewing. To find out why a teammate is missing
a tool, set the scope to that person: their row says whether it's off for them, their team or the
whole workspace.

## The tools

| Tool | What turning it off removes |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Chat** | Asking the assistant, in chats and projects |
| **Assets** | The Library: saving, browsing and reusing uploads and outputs |
| **Scheduled tasks** | Tasks that run automatically on a schedule |
| **Projects** | Projects, and the shared knowledge that comes with them |
| **Transcripts** | Turning recordings, podcasts and links into searchable text |
| **Canvas** | The infinite canvas |
| **Image generation** | The Image surface |
| **Video generation** | The Video surface |
| **Radar** | Tracking social accounts, trends and mentions |
| **Model picker** | Choosing which model powers each chat, rather than the default |
| **Skills** | Reusable instructions the assistant can load, and the skills screen |

* **Scheduled tasks need Chat.** With Chat off, the Scheduled tasks row shows *"Requires Chat.
Turn it on first."* Scheduled tasks stop running and resume when Chat is back on.
* **Chat off** also removes the home screen. The person lands on the Library, or on the first media
  tool they still have.
* **Skills off** removes the workspace's library skills from the assistant, and they can't be
created or edited. A project's own skills still load in that project's chats. Which individual
skills the workspace offers is set in **Settings → Governance → Skills**; see
  [Skills](/docs/automate/skills).

## Rules

* **Restrictions only subtract.** A tool turned off for the workspace stays off for every team and
person, and the row says which level turned it off. To give a tool to one team only, leave it on
for the workspace and turn it off for the other teams.
* The workspace level can't add a tool your plan doesn't include.
* A tool that is off is hidden (no menu entry, no page), and its actions are refused, so a saved
  link doesn't open it either.
* Turning a tool off deletes nothing. Turn it back on and the content is where it was.
* Members can turn tools off for themselves on the **Features** tab of their own profile in
**Settings → Members**. They can't turn on a tool the workspace, their team or an admin turned
off; the row then reads *"An admin turned this off for you."* or names the level.
* Endless releases some capabilities workspace by workspace. Those aren't on this page and you
  can't switch them on.
