Claude Opus 5 arrived in July 2026 as a large step over Claude Opus 4.8 in the same tier. Its defining trait is discipline: it verifies its work and keeps iterating carefully until the task actually succeeds. It accepts text and images, keeps 1M tokens in context and can return up to 128K tokens. Results are steadier from run to run, and it comes close to Claude Fable 5's intelligence at a lower cost to run.
