Subtitle generator for video
Upload a video and Endless transcribes it with timestamps. Download the result as SRT or VTT subtitles, fix names first, and ask the chat for a translation.
What is a subtitle generator?
A subtitle generator writes down the speech in a video and times each line to the moment it is said. The result is a subtitle file, usually SRT or VTT, that video players, editing apps and social platforms can load next to the video. Writing and timing subtitles by hand takes hours for a few minutes of video.
People add subtitles because many viewers watch with the sound off, because subtitles make a video accessible to people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and because a written version helps viewers who speak another language. Editors, course creators, marketers and anyone who publishes video use subtitle files to save that time.
Endless transcribes the video or audio file you attach in your workspace chat, with speakers and a timestamp on every word. From the transcript you can download SRT or VTT subtitles, or plain text and JSON. Before you export, the agent can fix a misheard name everywhere it appears, and it can translate the lines for you in the chat.
How it works
- 01
Pick your video
Choose or drop a video or audio file in the box above. Files up to 2 GB are accepted.
- 02
Sign in and attach the file again
Create a free Endless account or sign in. Your workspace chat opens with the prompt already written. The file cannot carry over from this page, so attach it again in the chat and send.
- 03
Check the text and download
The agent transcribes the video and lists words that may be wrong. Fix them in the chat, then download SRT or VTT from the transcript.
What people use it for
- 01
Subtitle social videos
Many people scroll with the sound off. Make subtitles for a reel, a short or an ad, then load the SRT file in your editor or upload it with the video on platforms that accept subtitle files.
- 02
Caption YouTube uploads
Download an SRT or VTT file and add it to your video in YouTube Studio instead of relying on automatic captions. Fix product names and people's names in the chat first, so the file is right the first time.
- 03
Make courses and training accessible
Course videos, onboarding videos and recorded trainings need subtitles for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing. One upload gives you the subtitle file and a full text version you can publish next to the video.
- 04
Prepare a translation
Get the subtitles in the original language, then ask the agent to translate the lines in the chat and keep the timestamps. Your translator or editor starts from timed text instead of a rough listen.
- 05
Speed up editing
Editors use the transcript to find a line in a long recording without scrubbing. Search the text, note the timestamp and jump to that moment in your timeline, then use the same file for the final subtitles.
- 06
Keep every version in one place
Every transcript is saved in your workspace's Transcripts section. When a client asks for the subtitles again, or for the text in another format, download it again instead of redoing the work.
Frequently asked questions
How do I generate subtitles for a video?
Pick the video on this page and sign in to Endless. Your workspace chat opens with the prompt already written. Attach the same file in the chat and send. The agent transcribes it with timestamps, and you download SRT or VTT subtitles from the transcript.
Is the subtitle generator free?
You can start free. Create a free Endless account and the Free plan gives your workspace 100 credits when you create it and 50 credits every week after that. Each transcript spends credits from that balance, and longer videos cost more. Paid plans add more credits.
How much does it cost?
Uploaded files are transcribed at 1 credit per minute of audio, so subtitles for a 10-minute video cost about 10 credits. Each transcript costs at least 1 credit. Downloading the SRT or VTT file afterward does not spend credits.
Which subtitle formats can I download?
SRT (SubRip) and VTT (WebVTT), the two formats most players, editing apps and video platforms accept. The same transcript can also be copied or downloaded as plain text, text with speakers, or JSON with word timings.
Can I fix mistakes before I export?
Yes. Ask the agent in the chat to replace a word or a name, and it changes it everywhere in the transcript, so the subtitle files you download include the fix. You can also rename the speaker labels on the transcript.
Can it translate the subtitles?
The agent can translate the subtitle lines in the chat and keep their timestamps. The translated text stays in the chat. The SRT and VTT downloads use the language spoken in the video, which Endless detects for you.
What files can I upload?
Video and audio files, up to 2 GB each. Endless transcribes the audio track, so the subtitles follow the speech in the file. If the video is already on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X or Facebook, you can paste its link in the chat instead.
