About Claude Fable 5
Claude Fable 5 launched in June 2026 as the first model in the Fable tier, aimed at demanding reasoning and long-horizon agent work. It takes text and images, keeps up to 1M tokens in context and replies with up to 128K tokens. The longer and more complex the task, the wider its lead over earlier Claude models, and it improves its outputs using notes it keeps along the way.
It fits research and analysis that unfolds over many steps, from spreadsheet and analytics work to financial analysis. Vision is a strength too: pulling numbers out of scientific figures or rebuilding a web app's code from screenshots.
Claude Fable 5.1 has since become the current Fable model in the same tier, with stronger long-running coding and research and a later knowledge cutoff. Keep Fable 5 when you want results consistent with work you already ran on it. For new projects, Fable 5.1 or Claude Opus 5.5 is usually the better pick.
