Interview transcription
Upload an interview recording. Endless separates the interviewer from the interviewee, adds timestamps, and the agent pulls the quotes and themes you need.
What is interview transcription?
Interview transcription turns a recorded conversation into text with each speaker separated. The interviewer's questions and the interviewee's answers sit on their own lines, with the time each one was said. You can read an hour-long interview in minutes and quote someone without guessing their exact words.
Journalists need exact quotes they can stand behind. Researchers need to compare what different participants said about the same question. Recruiters need to review candidates' answers side by side after a long day of calls. In each case the work starts with an accurate transcript, and timestamps let you return to the audio when tone matters.
Endless transcribes the interview file you upload with speakers and timestamps and saves it in your workspace's Transcripts section. In the same chat, the agent pulls quotes with their timestamps, groups the answers by theme and compares interviews. Each finding points back to the line it came from, so you can check it.
How it works
- 01
Choose the recording
Pick the interview's audio or video file, such as a phone recording, a voice recorder file or a video call export. Files can be up to 2 GB.
- 02
Sign in and attach the file again
Create a free Endless account or sign in. Your workspace chat opens with the prompt already written. The file cannot travel from this page to the app, so attach it again in the chat and send.
- 03
Read the transcript and the quotes
Get the transcript with each speaker separated, saved in Transcripts, plus the summary by theme and the quotes with timestamps. Ask follow-up questions in the same chat.
What people use it for
- 01
Quote sources accurately
Journalists get each answer as it was said, labeled with the speaker and its timestamp. Ask the agent for every quote about a topic, then check the wording against the audio before you publish. No more typing quotes from a recording at your desk.
- 02
Code research interviews
Researchers transcribe user interviews or qualitative studies and ask the agent to group answers by theme. Each theme comes with the quotes that support it, so the analysis can be checked line by line. Add more interviews and ask the agent to update the themes.
- 03
Compare candidates
Recruiters transcribe recorded screening calls and ask the agent to compare candidates' answers to the same questions. Share the transcripts with the hiring team instead of the recordings, so everyone reads the same answers.
- 04
Write a profile or Q&A
Ask the agent to turn the transcript into a Q&A, a profile draft or an article outline. It keeps the interviewee's words where they matter and marks where each quote appears, so editing stays close to what was said.
- 05
Review oral history
Transcribe long oral history or family interviews and get chapters that mark each topic change. Search the transcript for a name or place, or ask the agent to list every story about a period of time.
- 06
Keep a study in one place
Save every interview of a study or story to one project. Your team works from the same transcripts and findings, and the agent can answer questions across all of them, such as how many participants mentioned price.
Frequently asked questions
Can I transcribe an interview for free?
You can start free. Create a free Endless account and the Free plan gives your workspace 100 credits when you create it and 50 credits every week. Each transcript spends credits from that balance. Paid plans add more credits if you transcribe many interviews.
How much does an interview transcript cost?
Uploaded files are transcribed at high quality, which costs 1 credit per minute of recording, so a 30-minute interview costs 30 credits. The agent's work afterward, such as quotes and themes, also spends credits. The chat shows what each run spent.
Does it tell the interviewer and the interviewee apart?
Yes. Each line is labeled with its speaker and has a timestamp. Endless suggests a name for each speaker from the conversation, for example when someone is greeted by name, and otherwise uses a short label. Rename any speaker in the transcript's Speakers panel. Accuracy is best when people do not talk over each other.
What files can I upload?
Audio files such as MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG and Opus, and video files such as MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM. Each file can be up to 2 GB. That covers most phone recordings, voice recorders and video call exports.
Can it transcribe interviews in other languages?
Yes. Endless detects the language of the recording. The agent can also write the summary or translate quotes into another language. Ask for it in the prompt. Check translated quotes against the original before you publish them.
Can I export the transcript?
Yes. Export it as plain text, text with speakers, JSON, or SRT and VTT subtitles. Text with speakers is the usual choice for an interview you share with an editor or a research team.
Is my interview recording private?
Yes. Files you upload and their transcripts live in your workspace and are private by default. You choose whether to share them with teammates. Endless does not publish your recordings anywhere.
